3D Systems Cube® and CubeX™

"Last school year Scarborough Middle School received a grant from the Scarborough Education Foundation for two 3D printers. The printers I purchased are the CubeX Duo which can be found in my STEM Lab and the Cube II. which is located in Tim Tyler's classroom, also a STEM lab.

The two printers will be used to create parts and objects for STEM projects. This is such a unique opportunity for students we are currently working on a program where students can pay to print their own creations!

We will be using the two printers with all 6th-8th grade students. The CubeX Duo has a larger printing envelope which will allow the printing of multiple objects at once, enabling more students access to the printer."

Cube®

CubeXâ„¢ Duo

The Cube and CubeX are intended for easy set up and operation, using iPad and Web Based apps to enable younger students to engage in the design and fabrication of items such as earrings, bracelets and personalized art.  Both products offer a library of 25 free models, using pre-loaded filament cartridges in a variety of colors, but differ in speed, load capacity and print resolution.  CubeX is available in two- and three-cartridge versions, enabling the creation of multicolor printed objects.

This year, Falmouth Schools received a grant from the Perloff Foundation to purchase a Cube 3D Printer to be shared between the Technology Education program at Falmouth Elementary School and the Library Makerspace at Falmouth Middle School.

This equipment will serve to engage younger students in the design-build process, and will dovetail with The Digital Fabrication Center being established as part of Falmouth High School's STEM Academy.

Users of the Cube will be

Examples of Cubify web apps which allow young students to personalize items such as rings, bracelets and tags, then print directly on the Cube 3D Printer.

An additional Cube 3D Printer has been purchased for use by the five libraries of the schools comprising MSAD 74.  The plan is for each library to use the Cube for 5 weeks, with an emphasis on project based learning at all grade levels.
