2BOT® ModelMakerâ„¢

"During the 2012/13 school year, the 2BOT was rotated between the two RSU 19 middle schools with the objective of students designing and fabricating their own 3d prototype cars.  One middle school had double the time so the quality of the cars and completion was greatly enhanced.   I found that the learning curve of the SketchUp Software can be steep to get complex curves.

Nevertheless, the 2BOT worked fabulously as a rapid prototyping tool.  The students loved and were amazed at their ability to virtually create an object and then bring it into the real world with the push of a button."

The 2BOT ModelMaker is a  SketchUp compatible, 3D subtractive printer that employs a high speed silicon carbide cutter to produce dimensionally scalable models.   A front-loading cassette accepts a 2" x 13" slab of residential insulating foam.  This allows the reverse side of the material to also be shaped by simply removing the cassette, flipping it up-side-down and reinserting into ModelMaker.  The models are cut from both sides.
